What a powerful start to June - playing in the 80th anniversary of D-Day concert organised by the Royal British Legion on the actual date that D-Day happened, the 6th June. It was an honour to commemorate this historic occasion with the Royal British Legion, Sea Cadets, Accrington Pipe Band, the Hyndburn Singers and many local civic dignataries.
The event paid tribute to the heroes of D-Day through words, song, music and pictures. It would be impossible to single out any one performance as every one was brilliant. The standard of performance was incredibly high, not easy considering the sense of occasion and emotion within the church.
A concert that will be remembered for a very long time...
Once again, some of the band will be playing carols 'around the tree' at Stanhill. This is a regular feature for the band and very much appreciated by the locals. For more details, look in our 'Forthcoming Events' section.
It's always nice to receive very positive feedback after playing a concert, knowing that both our audience and event organisers enjoyed the event.
We're really pleased therefore, to receive feedback from the organisers that the 'Poppy Concert' we played for the Royal British Legion at the Brave Church in Accrington went down very well with all those who attended. It was a great night for everyone as the band thoroughly enjoyed playing for such an attentive audience. Following the concert we've also been approached for a possible concert in the future, so that's quite exciting as well!
As always, we try to play music from all styles and genres for two reasons. Firstly, it's good to be able to have a strong repertoire readily available so we can respond to different requests for concerts - such as themed concerts.
Secondly, playimg different styles of music, such as rock, pop, jazz, swing, marches, musicals and classical keeps our rehearsals refreshing, the band engaged and as a result, we improve our musicanship and have some fun at the same time.
So, with that in mind, here's an extract of what we've been playing recently:
For the last 10 years, the Civic Theatre in Oswaldtwistle has been our home. We've had some great times in this venue, but owing to circumstances beyond our control, we have had to say goodbye.
We now rehearse at St Christopher's Sixth Form College, Accrington, which is proving ideal for us. It's a modern, bright building with a lift and lots of car parking space. We play in the lecture theatre - a large room with brilliant acoustics so we're very lucky.
